With one match remaining in the opening round of the Caribbean Football Union's Club Championship still to play, the field is nearly set for the Second Round of the event as two clubs from Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Haiti are set to face one another for a shot at the three berths into the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League.
After slow starts on the road the clubs from Trinidad & Tobago returned home and displayed their regional dominance with an 8-0 aggregate performance. Defence Force broke a 1-1 stalemate with a 3-0 victory over Bermuda's Dandy Town Hornets. Caledonia AIA added to its 1-0 lead with a five-goal shutout over Newtown United of St Kitts and Nevis.
River Plate Puerto Rico, forced to play both legs on the road, advanced 2-1 on aggregate courtesy of its 2-0 win in the first leg Friday, falling in the Cayman Islands to Bodden Town in the second leg. They join the defending champion and three-time CONCACAF Champions League participant Puerto Rico Islanders, the only seeded club that received a bye to the Second Round. The Islanders will have to wait to learn their opponent, which will come from the lone series yet to conclude.
The two Haitian clubs, Tempete and Alpha United, advanced when their first round opponents withdrew from the tournament and the seventh club to advance was Milerock of Guyana, which came out on top on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate draw against Intermoengotapoe in which both clubs won on the road.
The Second Round is set for the weeks of April 12 and 22.
